We run into this situation quite frequently at Azavea, so we’ve gotten to know many of the providers over the years. Lastly, there’s the difficult case of needing high resolution, recently collected imagery (especially if you plan to derive commercial works from that imagery and need access to the raw files). That imagery can also be downloaded from either Earth on AWS or the Earth Engine Catalog-you can also browse when the most recent imagery was collected for each state (and at what resolution) at this free online coverage map hosted by ESRI. In the U.S., the USDA’s National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) captures 1m/pixel or better imagery for the entire contiguous United States once every other year. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the data before downloading a lot of it!įor high-resolution aerial imagery, your options are much more limited. A warning: these are very large files and the imagery itself is lower resolution than what you might expect to see on a typical web map. For larger-area basemaps, satellite imagery providers make more sense: and Australia and has a very simple user interface available through any web browser. For high-resolution aerial imagery, NearMap orthographics provide great coverage in the U.S. Rather than license imagery from Google that they’re, in turn, licensing from imagery providers, it usually makes more sense to go directly to the source. Google’s Maps API is notoriously stingy in this regard, with its terms of service even limiting your right to display content derived from Google imagery on a map that isn’t also provided by Google. tracing building footprints or other cartographic features), you should consider a paid option that allows for derivative works to be produced. Swiss-born contemporary composer Helena Winkelman‘s Papa Haydn’s Parrot offers an 8-movement sequence of variants on parts of the Bird Quartet. In realising this, the ASQ brought a much-appreciated verve to what is fast becoming a string quartet recital cliche: the opening Haydn. Haydn’s felicitous chains of parallel 3rds and 6ths look so simple on paper but translate into crisp and attractive passages of play, the actual sound more effervescent than you’d expect. And the rondo-finale proved to be a deft gem, the lower voices of King and Valve not over-emphatic but then much of their work sits in their instruments’ middle ranges. This might work for some of the score’s more obvious and simple stretches but leads to dismissiveness when the first violin encounters sextuplets and that benign flight of fancy lasting from bar 43 to bar 36.Īlso dissimilar to several contemporary approaches, the ASQ eschewed the possibility of radically meddling with metre, sticking consistently to a regular pulse without extending hiatus points, this slow movement a case in point where the phrasing sounded collegial and the ensemble’s underlying impetus unshakeable, except for Barltrop’s solo interstitial breaks. It sounded as though a communal decision had been taken to view these pages as a sort of minuet. The group’s approach to the Adagio was anything but. In the following Scherzando, Barltrop and Hiew produced a cogent, rustic version of the two-voice Trio the only oddity came with Valve’s tendency to anticipate the others at some of the Allegretto‘s mid-paragraph cadences where the upper three players had pre-determined a small hesitation. Unlike quite a few extant recorded performances, the ASQ followed Haydn’s repeat signs. A small thing but it drew attention to a balancing flaw that arose several times in this particular movement. While Barltrop was finishing his 1st theme statement, Valve’s ascending C Major arpeggio was pushed forward with excessive force ditto for the D minor pattern repeat in bars 11-12. Replacing Sharon Grigoryan (absent on parental leave), the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s principal cellist made his presence all too obvious in the opening sentences of Haydn’s Bird String Quartet Op. The regular ASQ members – violins Dale Barltrop and Francesca Hiew, viola Stephen King – contrived to weld Valve into their performing practice with pretty consistent success. Valve’s gesture was sincere, I’m sure, but not really necessary as this undertaking was the night’s highlight, largely due to a solid interpretative consensus from all concerned. Introducing the last work on this subscription series recital from the ASQ, stand-in cellist Timo-Veikko Valve thanked his colleagues for programming a work from his own country: the Voces intimae String Quartet in D minor by Sibelius which is the Finnish composer’s outstanding contribution to chamber music. (L to R) Dale Barltrop, Francesca Hiew, Stephen King, Timo-Veikko Valve An additional max fee of $18 if the title is not obtained through the OMV.

All the flavors will blend beautifully in the lime juice which you can adjust to taste. The cilantro looks too big as well in this photo. The red onion can be bit smaller than the mango dice, but it should have a well-blended effect at the end. The trick is to have the jalapeno chopped fine and the mango and tomatoes to be diced to the same size. These are the right ingredients for a basic mango salsa but the photo isn't up to par. Grief has helped forge Joe Biden’s character Biden is now poised to enter the 2020 presidential race. When his son had terminal cancer, said Biden, “I can’t fathom what would happen if they had said the last six months you’re on your own.”īeau and Hunter Biden, Joe’s sons, were Neilia Hunter Biden’s children with Joe Biden, although they were also very close to Jill Biden, who married the grieving Joe Biden in the 1970s. “I can’t imagine what it would have been like not to have adequate healthcare,” he said, referencing his first wife and daughter’s deaths and how his two sons were injured. Joe Biden brought up both family tragedies in the first Democrat debate when he talked about the need for better healthcare, and his family pain is expected to be discussed against at the Democratic National Convention as he accepts the nomination. Over the years, Joe Biden has spoken openly about surviving the crushing grief he faced when Neilia and Naomi died – and, again, when his son Beau Biden died at 46 years old from brain cancer. He survived the crash, along with his brother, Beau, who later died tragically of brain cancer.īefore his current wife, Jill, Joe Biden was married to Neilia Biden, who died young in a car accident at the age of 30 along with the couple’s 1-year-old daughter Naomi. However, due to our simulation not being around a star, there is no habitable zone. At about 4.9% water by mass, it's actually a pretty watery place. In our particular simulation, Rnax currently has liquid water on its surface. As such, it is possible that certain dwarf planets that form have predominantly iron, some more water than others, etc. One of the interesting things about the Random Asteroid tool is that the random asteroids it spawns have various material percentages. In fact, it is only about 78% the mass of Ceres, but has been given its own unique texture, so I'm betting US2 acknowledges it as a dwarf planet sized body Ictonaer is less massive than Rnax at a mere 7.44 x 10 20 kg. And yes, that is liquid standing water on the surface of Rnax. However, it is still only about 2% the mass of Earth's Moon. Behold, Rnax and Ictonaer!Īt 1.57 x 10 21 kg, Rnax surpasses the mass of Ceres at 9.47 x 10 20 kg. In the above screenshot, I have cut off the two most massive objects in orbit around Jupiter, because those are the stars of our post. Based on the current division in the models in the sim right now, it looks like US2 makes this divide somewhere around 9.45 x 10 18 kg. On the right, you can see larger asteroids which are not yet massive enough to be forced into a sphere by their own gravity. On the left, you can see the beginnings of dwarf planets. Here are some current "proto" dwarf planets currently still in the simulation. It was clear they were different from the asteroids because they were rounded, but they still lacked a unique texture based on their materials percentages. These rounded, "proto" dwarf planets started appearing around day 4 maybe. Not surprisingly, these texture improvements begin when asteroids begin to get massive enough to be considered dwarf planets based on their spherical shapes. Massive, but tiny in US2.Īs these tiny asteroids collide with others and grow, their shape rounds as they become more massive just like in real life, but US2 also does us the service of beginning to improve the texture placed on the object once it reaches decent mass limits. For perspective, this is about 1/25,700 the mass of Ceres. Looking at the range of masses on the Random Asteroids in the system at the moment, the smallest is 3.69 x 10 16 kg. They are not rounded at all and are much smaller than Moons or even Small Moons. It's worth remembering that the Random Asteroid tool places what essentially look like tiny rocks. All Random Asteroids have been placed in plane with Jupiter in circular orbits to try to keep it a bit tidy, but several asteroids due to gravitational interactions now have very peculiar orbits. I've been doing this constantly, for two weeks (~460 years ingame time), adding ~900 Random Asteroids, letting it run, then adding more. So, I decided to do a "moon accretion" sim instead, using Jupiter as the "star" of the system and placing 900-950 Random Asteroids in orbit around Jupiter, then adding more each time it got down around 300-400 objects from collisions. The total number of bodies I could place before the time step went near zero was far too small to be very useful. Also, I found that having a star at the center of the system, due to the lighting, was really GPU/CPU intensive. Apparently no option to choose what kind of body to spawn too? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Change particles to bodies and just fill the orbit around a star with thousands of "Random Asteroids." Turns out that no matter what I do, the bodies always spawn as Earth Moons rather than bodies of smaller sizes. So I set out to try to set up something similar.Īt first, I thought the easiest way would be to use the ring feature. As SPH has not yet been fully implemented, we don't yet have a way to run a true protoplanetary disk and planetary accretion simulation. Sandbox 1 wasn't up to the task, so years later, got US2. My only reason I bought universe sandbox was to be able to simulate protoplanetary disks and planetary accretion. Finally figured out how to do small thumbnails you can click to go to the full image!
